Best known for his travels as an evangelizing preacher and baptizer, Saint John is remembered as the man who baptized Jesus himself. As his popularity grew, John came to the attention of an alarmed King Herod, who had him arrested and imprisoned. When John criticised Herod for marrying Herodias, his half-brother's wife, John sealed his own fate. Herodias had Salome, her beautiful daughter, dance for the king. Entranced, he granted Salome any wish. She asked for John's head on a platter.
